David Yezzi’s books of poetry include Birds of the Air and, forthcoming in 2018, Black Sea, both from Carnegie Mellon. He is the editor of The Swallow Anthology of New American Poets, foreword by J. D. McClatchy. His libretto for David Conte’s opera Firebird Motel has been performed widely and was issued on CD in 2007. His verse plays One the Rocks, Dirty Dan & Other Travesties, and Schnauzer have been produced in New York and Baltimore. A former director of the Unterberg Poetry Center of the 92nd Street Y in New York, he is editor of The Hopkins Review.​

David Yezzi teaches courses on narrative poetry (from Homer to the present) and on the dramatic element in lyric poetry, as well as “Performing Fiction & Poetry,” which combines literary and theatrical practice to further develop an awareness of literature as a spoken art form.
