Courtney Sender took first place in Glimmer Train’s Fiction Open contest and received $2,500 for “Even Angels Are Astonished.”

Courtney Sender’s fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in Crazyhorse, Five Chapters, the Carolina Quarterly, and J Journal: New Writing on Justice, as well as Tin House and Esquire online. She holds an MFA in fiction from the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars and a BA in English from Yale. She is currently finishing a first novel. This will be her first major print publication.
