Lauren Russell is the author of Descent (Tarpaulin Sky Press, 2020), winner of the Poetry Society of America’s 2021 Anna Rabinowitz Award, and What’s Hanging on the Hush (Ahsahta, 2017). Her next book, A Window That Can Neither Open nor Close: Poems, Plots, Chance, is forthcoming on Milkweed Editions’ Multiverse Series in 2024. Russell has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Cave Canem, and Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing. Her work has appeared in The Brooklyn RailThe New York Times Magazine, and the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day, among others. She comes to Hopkins from Michigan State University, where she was an assistant professor and director of the Center for Poetry there. Previously she was assistant director of the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics at the University of Pittsburgh.
