Writing Seminars Graduate Matt Morton Wins the Wabash Prize for Poetry

Matt Morton (MFA Writing Seminars 2014) has been chosen by Bob Hicok as the winner of the 2014 Wabash Prize for Poetry for his poem “Windfall.” Of “Windfall,” Hicok writes, “I find myself wanting to live in this poem every time I read it … I like the mix of missing and having, how full the poem is, even as it addresses absence.” “Windfall” will be published in Sycamore Review; Morton will also receive a prize of $1,000. Other poems by Morton have appeared in Gulf Coast, Indiana Review, The Paris-American, and West Branch. Morton has recently been a finalist in both the Ruth Lilly Fellowship competition and Narrative Magazine’s 30 Below Story and Poetry Contest.
